THE SMITH CENTRE

The Smith Centre

The Smith Centre is designed to bring together key figures in business, science, culture and academia.

The Science Museum uses the Centre for exclusive events as well as providing patrons and fellows with rooms to relax in and enjoy special exhibitions of the museum’s treasures.

A hidden wide screen in the Fellows Room can be revealed for a presentation or film. D J Willrich Ltd (DJW) installed the screen and simple touch screen control system allowing presentation from a laptop, DVD or VCR. Lighting control is integrated so it can be adjusted to one of the pre-sets for watching the screen.

There is lighting throughout the entire centre with simple one push ‘scenes’ to change lighting in the display cases and rooms to pre-set scenes designed especially for the various uses of the Centre. Sensors turn on the lighting in low use areas, saving electricity but leaving no one in the dark! And lastly, DJW installed and commissioned a wireless network so that visitors to the Centre have access to the internet.
