ROALD DAHL MUSEUM AND STORY CENTRE

This Museum, aimed at children and their families, tells stories of the famous writer Roald Dahl, while the interactive Story Centre inspires children’s creativity in writing and story telling.

In the biographical galleries you really feel like you’re inside one of Roald Dahl’s books, with lighting and projections of images and film clips onto walls. Children can find out about Dahl’s writing template, using touch screens designed as books to examine extracts from his most famous books. They can read about the stories they don’t already know and zoom in to Roald Dahl’s drafts to see how he changed the text from his first drafts to the final publication.

In the Story Centre, visitors use headphones to listen to famous writers talk about how they write and where they get their ideas. Children make a stop-motion animation film following simple instructions on a screen. The ‘Automatic Grammatizator’ lets children see their stories in lights as the words and phrases they put together are shone onto the floor with the combination of a camera and projector.

D J Willrich Ltd integrated the lighting, projection, screens, and audio handsets for the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre. DJW also developed the touch screen ‘books’ and stop-motion animation software.
